About the event
Learn the art and science of beekeeping, through a mix of classroom and hands-on learning. Our beginner beekeeping workshop will give you the knowledge you need to get started keeping honeybees. Topics include: introduction to honeybee biology, beekeeping equipment, seasonal hive management, bee diseases, and Ontario regulations and resources. In the hands-on portions of the day, you will learn how to inspect a beehive and handle frames of bees.
Participants will need to bring their own protective gear (beekeeping veil, beekeeping jacket, or beekeeping suit) and closed toed footwear. If wearing a veil, long sleeved, light colored and light material clothing is suggested. You can purchase beekeeping equipment ahead of time at our sister company Ottawa Beekeeping Supplies.
Please bring your own lunch and a water bottle. A notebook and pencil can be handy. Cameras are welcomed.
